Projected Capacitive
Surface Capacitive |
Projected Capacitive (PCT) Touch Screen
for touch applications demanding harsh outdoor use |
Works through Glass!! Ideal for Railway Outdoor Kiosk - can use additional glass in front to avoid breakage of Touch Screen.
Traditional touchscreen sensing technologies, such as capacitive, resistive and surface acoustic wave are surface-active and therefore, more susceptible to surface variance effects during the screen's lifetime. Capacitive sensor arrays are often subject to drift, which means that regular recalibration is required and consequently, maintenance is more expensive. Resistive touch technology is more prone to damage caused by sharp pointing devices such as a pen or the corner of a credit card. PCT eliminates all of these problems by providing a robust, reliable and calibration-free, non-surface active glass fronted touch solution.
PCT is based on the principle of embedding an array of micro-fine sensing wires within a multi-layer laminated screen behind a protective front surface, ensuring that the sensing medium is well-protected from accidental and malicious damage. This technology is extremely robust and reliable, offers one of the industry's highest light transmission characteristics and can be operated with a gloved or ungloved hand
PCT has unlimited touch life, is drift-free, and so requires minimal maintenance. PCT is currently employed in a wide range of touchscreen-based applications that require high-end solutions, such as public access information kiosks, jukeboxes, ATMs, gaming machines and medical and industrial applications. |
| Highlights at a glance: |
- Cutting Edge Embedded Technology.
- Excellance Awards Winner - KioskCom 2004 show in USA .
- Chosen by OEMs such as - NCR, EloTouch, Marconi BritishTelecom etc.
- Unlimited touches life expectancy. No moving parts.
- High Light Transmission- 91%.
- Durability & Resistance to Vandalism: Shock, Scratch and Vandal resistant.
- Debris resistant - Impervious to surface contaminants such as dirt, grease and moisture/ rain water / ice snow.
- Moisture: Touch panel unaffected by severe levels of moisture or water droplets on the surface.
- Chemicals: Performance unaffected by cleaning solutions.
- "Through Glass" feature - can work through shop glass windows or through a piece of sacrificial glass placed in front of the touch sensor, the software has an adjustment for sensitivity. Through Glass Feature is great for Banks, Retail Showroom Windows: The additional piece of glass -thermally toughened, minimum 3mm upto 20mm thick - can also act as an anti-vandal protective layer, so that in the event of breakage, only it needs to be replaced and not the entire touchscreen.
- The 3mm glass on the sensor is anti-glare and thermally toughened which passes the 25mm steel ball bearing drop test.
- Sealability: NEMA 12, NEMA 4 compliant.
- High Touch Resolution: 4096X4096.
- The Zytouch takes the first touch only and does not average like "other Capacitive", which can be dangerous as multiple simultaneous touches may trigger the wrong button actions.
- Does not use a surface coating like "other Capacitive", instead uses a Micro-fine wire of 10 Microns set in a special pattern, and there is no yellowish tint like with "other Capacitive".
- Does not suffer from drift like "other Capacitive" and this makes the ZyTouch very robust. No re-calibration required as it uses fixed wires to ensure zero drift over time with absolutely no need for maintenance.
- The controller is built (embedded) directly into the glass, so no extra wiring and the power is sourced through the RS232/USB port itself.
- In India , priced much lower than "other Capacitive" touchscreens.
- Wide range of Sizes available: 7" upto 22".

| Application: |
| For use in extreme harsh outdoor environments like ATMs, Robust Outdoor Public Access Kiosks, Web phones, Banking, Medical displays, self service, industrial environments & unattended public access applications. |
How is it different from "other big name brand Capacitive" touchscreens?
Unlike other touchscreens using a normal capacitive system where the sensing medium is on the surface of the touch panel, the active component of the superior ZYTOUCH sensor is embedded inside the 3mm glass for protection and can be up to 20mm from the touch surface. |
How does it work?
The touchscreen works by sensing capacitance. When you place a finger on or near to the Touch sensor, a capacitance forms between your finger and the wires on the sensor grid. The controller senses changes in the capacitance on the sensor wires, this change is given as a finger position. |
Any Unique features?
Works through a protective layer of glass (can have unique applications such as "touchscreen tabletops" or "through glass option for showroom windows /ATMS". This means that even if the outer layer of glass is vandalised the touchscreen operation is unaffected. |

| A Note about Traditional Capacitive Touchscreens eg. "other brand Capacitive": |
- Are not suited to external applications, as the surface of the screen is prone to damage by scratching, which has a direct impact on performance (cursor accuracy and calibration).
- Maintenance of normal capacitive touchscreens can be a problem as they require frequent re-calibration due to changes in temp., humidity or a power grounding problem.
- They only work with a conductive, grounded pointing device (an uncovered finger) and are therefore unsuited to many applications where gloved fingers would be used.
- Need to be used with proper grounded power source which is not always available in our country.
- Low touch resolution of 1024X1024.
- Not recommended in locations where metal enclosures and any kind of magnetic or electrical interference is present.

After local testing in India our valued customers observations are:
With ordinary"other brand Capacitive" non-Projected Capacitive touchscreens, the applied coatings & layers degrade & wear out over time. Try using sand paper, keys or a coin to scratch through the surface coat. Once you get into the conductive layer the touchscreen will cease to work in that location. Also frequent re-calibration is required as it loses it's stability & accuracy due to changes in environment for eg. temp. or the user's body capacitance & it does not work at all with a gloved finger or stylus. Once damaged it cannot be repaired and has to be replaced. Warranty does not cover any damage to the touchscreen. |
